Real eggs

It wasn’t until I got my own chickens that I knew what a real farm fresh egg was. I’d been buying extra-special cage-free Organic free-range eggs at the local grocery stores for ages. I would carefully read the labels to make sure they weren’t playing fast and loose with the language, as many tried to do. We were paying $4.50 or more per dozen, for what I thought were the best eggs we could get.

Then I got my own chickens. Um, wow. What a difference it made to have eggs from chickens who actually lived their lives as chickens were meant to do. They tasted SO much better that I could hardly believe it. The color of the yolks were so different, vibrant orange yellow. That’s what a real egg is supposed to look like.

The best way to find farm fresh eggs near you is probably at the Local Harvest website. It’s so worth it.

Where do you get your farm fresh eggs from? Has it slowed down during the winter? Can you tell a difference in taste between store-bought conventional eggs and farm fresh ones?
